ELVIS PRESLEY - ELVIS' HOUND DOG HATERS

Rock legend Elvis Presley has overtaken NIRVANA frontman KURT COBAIN as the
biggest earning dead celebrity.
The Jailhouse Rock hitmaker topped the Forbes magazine poll with earnings of
$58 million (£29 million) during 2007.

The composers of one of ELVIS PRESLEY's greatest hits resented THE KING making their song famous.
Elvis scored a number one around the world with the track in 1956, but writers JERRY LEIBER and MIKE STOLLER originally penned Hound Dog for black female singer BIG MAMA THORNTON - and hated Elvis' performance of the song.
Stoller says Presley "sounded stiff and too fast - a little nervous. It didn't have that insinuating groove like on Big Mama's record".
But 70-year-old Stoller concedes Elvis' success with the track softened him, grinning, "After it sold seven million copies it began to sound better."
