British transvestite comedian EDDIE IZZARD has conquered his fear of flying, by piloting a light aircraft un-aided.

The 42-year-old ALL THE QUEEN'S MEN suffered a crippling fear of flying - until he used his childhood dream of being a fighter pilot to overcome the phobia.

His publicist KARON MASKILL explains, "He's an all-action transvestite - of course he's going to learn to fly.

"Eddie used to watch all the war films and wanted to be just like the Spitfire pilots he saw fighting the Germans. Then when he got in a plane, he realised he was terrified of flying.

"He decided that the best way to get over this fear was to tackle it head-on and learn to fly himself."

Eddie reportedly spent $10,800 (GBP6,000) on flying lessons at the DENHAM SCHOOL OF FLYING in Uxbridge, England.
