KIRSTEN DUNST is to play historical French icon MARIE ANTOINETTE in director SOFIA COPPOLA's first film since her critically acclaimed LOST IN TRANSLATION.

The period movie will start shooting at the Palace of Versailles in France later this week (ends11MAR05).

JASON SCHWARZMAN, who is Coppola's cousin, will play Marie Antoinette's husband KING LOUIS XVI. Other cast members include RIP TORN, STEVE COOGAN, ASIA ARGENTO and MARIANNE FAITHFUL.

Dunst previously starred in Coppola's debut THE VIRGIN SUICIDES.
