THE DROWSY CHAPERONE - DROWSY CHAPERONE HEADS UP TONY NOMINATIONS
Broadway musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE leads the nominations for next month's (JUN06) Tony Awards with 13 nods. The stage show directed by SPAMALOT choreographer CASEY NICHOLAW, which is based around a fan's love for a 1920s play, is the favourite to win Best Musical. Hot on its heels is the stage adaptation of THE COLOR PURPLE, produced by OPRAH WINFREY and based on ALICE WALKER's novel studying racial tension, with 11 nominations. THE PAJAMA GAME landed nine nods while JERSEY BOTS and AWAKE AND SING! both scooped eight nominations. The Broadway production of British playwright ALAN BENNETT's THE HISTORY BOYS is favourite to win Best Play, and is also up for six other awards. The star-studded presentation ceremony will take place at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on 11 June.
