British actress MINNIE DRIVER is hoping her singing career will take off - after mingling with music bosses at a recent award ceremony in a bid to clinch a record deal.

The GOOD WILL HUNTING star, 34, discussed her potential singing career with music bigwigs at the Flame Worthy Music Awards, where she was presenting the best male video award.

The OSCAR-nominated actress explains, "I just want to get a little independent deal.

"But I have to get my record out before my movie, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, comes out - because people are going to think I'm an opera singer."
