ATLANTIS - DONOVAN'S DRUG BUST PHILOSOPHY
Hippie icon DONOVAN is philosophical about being the first British singer to be arrested for cannabis possession, because he is convinced it is simply because he was such a huge star - and society wanted to make an example of him.
The ATLANTIS rocker, who was approached by police in 1966, insists authorities were keen to target the most important figures in popular culture when it came to drug busts, and believes this is the reason he was the first to be lynched over the mind-expanding herb.
He says, "Why was I busted? Tens of thousands of guys were rolling joints that night. Why me?
"Because I was an example to youth. The authorities though they could stop this revolution called the sixties by picking off the main singer-songwriters. The poets were always at the forefront."
