PETE DOHERTY - DOHERTY SAVED BY 'THE GENERAL'

Troubled British rocker PETE DOHERTY will always be grateful to a man he calls 'The General' for protecting him when he was jailed for two weeks last year (05). The BABYSHAMBLES singer was put behind bars as he stood accused of assaulting and blackmailing film-maker MAX CARLISH, and he was terrified of what the other inmates would do to him. But Rastafarian The General struck up such a good rapport with Doherty, he kept him safe until the charges against him were dropped. Doherty says, "Prison is a horror story. I was in (London prison) Pentonville for two weeks. The inmates terrified me. "You know, I've never harmed anybody else except myself, but some of those guys... Luckily, The General took me under his wing. I don't think I can handle being banged up again." Doherty could face further incarceration - last week (ends24MAR06), he admitted possessing crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis at a London court hearing. The case was adjourned until 20 April (06) for sentencing.
