CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY - DEPP INVENTED WONKA VOICE DURING CHILD'S PLAY

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY star JOHNNY DEPP invented his quirky WILLY WONKA voice while playing with his daughter LILY-ROSE MELODY.

The Hollywood heart-throb always auditions his future characters on the six-year-old, because children always give the most honest reaction.

He says, "A lot of times what happens is you come up with these ideas and you never get to try them until a read through.

"I often play Barbies with Lily-Rose. Sometimes I will put on an accent and she'll say, 'Daddy don't use that voice'.

"Then we were playing one day and I started to use my Wonka voice, and she kinda lit up a bit, like, 'Where's that coming from?'

"And I thought, 'All right, I think I'm on the right track here.'

"Children are always the most honest audience you'll get.

"Whenever Lily-Rose and Jack would watch the GENE WILDER film on DVD, I would immediately run out of the room because I didn't want to be influenced by his performance one way or the other."
