HULTSFRED - CONGA FUN GETS COMPLICATED

Dancing spiraled out of control at Sweden's HULTSFRED music festival on Saturday (14JUN03), when a 500-people strong 'conga line' took over the camping area of the festival.

More than 100 people were arrested when the three-day RADIOHEAD-headlined festival came to a close, and security guards were called to calm an after festival party in the early hours of Sunday morning (15JUN03).

Security guards claim they noticed 100 people who were turning the frivolity into violence, and ULF KARLSSON, information officer for KALMAR DISTRICT police, says, "They ran round and destroyed fencing. There was a risk that both people and property would be damaged.

"We decided therefore to remove people in order to avert any further crime."

However, festival goer MATTIAS JANSSON defended his actions saying, "All we were doing is dancing and singing about love and freedom."

All 105 Conga-revellers who were detained have been released with no charges pending.
