Eighties pop icons THE COCTEAU TWINS have abandoned plans to reunite for a headline slot at California's COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL.

The Scottish stars were set to reform at the festival's opening night (30APR05), but festival bosses have now confirmed that band member ELIZABETH FRASER has pulled out for undisclosed personal reasons.

The organisers released the following statement: "It is with regret that Cocteau Twins announce they will not be performing at the Coachella Valley Music Festival on April 30 as had been planned.

"Due to personal reasons, member Elizabeth Fraser has decided that she is unable to participate in the reunion, and apologises for any inconvenience that this has caused."

COLDPLAY, BAUHAUS, NINE INCH NAILS, NEW ORDER, BRIGHT EYES, FUTUREHEADS and BLOC PARTY are part of the festival's stellar rock line-up.
