Movie heart-throb GEORGE CLOONEY is desperately trying to romance SOPHIE DAHL - despite the gorgeous model's commitment to new love DAN BAKER.

SOLARIS star George, 42, is in Italy relaxing at his new 18th Century villa in LAKE COMO.

And as soon as he heard Sophie was in town visiting original BOND beauty URSULA ANDRESS, besotted George pulled out all the stops.

A source says, "George is totally smitten with Sophie. He has known her for some time and has always had a soft spot for her.

"But he really went to town when she turned up this time."

George's efforts include sending flowers to Sophie's hotel, charming her over a meal organised by 67-year-old Ursula, and inviting her to enjoy the views over Lake Como from his pad.

But 23-year-old Sophie has been dating Dan for six months and it is rumoured the couple are thinking of setting up home together in Los Angeles.
