EMINEM was so broke when he first wed his childhood sweetheart he'd break into his mother's house to steal food.

The rapper insists he and his ex, KIM MATHERS, had it really tough throughout their relationship - because they were so poor.

He tells VANITY FAIR, "There's things I went through with Kim that I could never experience or go through again.

"We went to my mom's and broke in the house while she was at bingo and stole French fries out of the refrigerator to take them back to her mom's house to make French fries because we had no money to eat."
