LOST star NAVEEN ANDREWS has vowed never to return to his native London, because the city provides painful memories of his alcohol and heroin addictions.

The actor, who also starred in the Oscar-winning movie THE ENGLISH PATIENT, plunged into a drug and booze nightmare in the British capital during his early twenties, a fate which nearly ended his promising screen career.

Andrews was forced to move across the Altantic to America to seek rehabilitation and get his life back on track.

The 36-year-old Brit says, "London really does have bad memories for me.

"I blew it in the 1990s in England because of my drinking habits. There's no way I could have lived there and stayed sober.

"I was born in 1969 and it wasn't pleasant during my childhood. It was like one big pub. That was the problem.

"Now I'm in the States I realise there are alternatives to the way I'd be living over there. I profoundly grateful to have got out."
