AVRIL LAVIGNE has been given the honour of re-recording the theme to SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS for the animated TV show's movie adaptation.

FLAMING LIPS, WILCO and THE SHINS are among the stars on the eclectic soundtrack, but Canadian star Lavigne has nabbed the theme.

Meanwhile, actor DAVID HASSELHOFF will recreate his BAYWATCH character in the film.
