Heavyweight AMERICAN IDOL star RUBEN STUDDARD has been hospitalised in his native Birmingham, Alabama, after suffering from exhaustion.

The portly gospel singer, who is on a TV diet in America, spent the day of his new album release (23NOV04) in hospital.

Medics claim a recent bout of bronchitis left the 26-year-old singer feeling low, but they expect him to make a full recovery.

Studdard is expected to stay in hospital over the Thanksgiving weekend, postponing two planned concerts in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
