Mike Skinner celebrates
his debut album Original Pirate Material turning
gold (or over 100,000 sales, stat fans) with the single release
of the albums standout track Weak Become Heroes'.
Both a gushing fan letter to house music
and an incisive commentary on rave culture, Weak Become
Heroes marries the kind of blissful piano line that
fuelled a thousand orbital raves to Skinners musing
on a life lived on the dancefloor and universal lessons learned
but not acted upon. This is what Green Velvet would sound
like if hed grown up with Pete Tong and Eastenders.
Remixes from X-Press 2s Ashley Beedle
reunite the track with its roots on the dancefloor, adding
four to the floor thump to piano to create a perfect piece
of Brummie garage not garridge. Deep house surrealists Freaks
take the beats further out, dousing the commentary with their
acid-spiked bass bin alchemy.
As a bonus current single Lets Push
Things Forward gets a touch of revival pressure, as
Skinner goes head to head with much touted East London crew
Roll Deep for a touch of Bow to Birmingham soundclash action.
