Dont Mug Yourself is the fourth single to be taken from Mike Skinners (aka The Streets) gold selling debut album Original Pirate Material. 'Don't Mug Yourself' is a raw and amusing tale of Skinners mates telling him not to make a fool of himself over a girl he fancies, the track was recorded after a drunken night out with his best mate Calvin Schmalvin, who features on vocals. The energy of the production coupled with Skinners much loved hooky and well observed turn of phrase could see this being the biggest single to be taken from the album. Even through the haze of weed and endless glasses of Marlon (brandy, do keep up), Mike Skinner will never forget 2002. His critically acclaimed debut album was already being hyped as Album Of The Year back in March and words such as lyrical genius and the British Eminem were being spurted from every area of the media. A lot of hype for a 22 year old to live up to. But he has. Not only has the album sold over 100,000, it was recently nominated for the Mercury Music Award 2002. Nice one geezer. Skinner has now successfully transferred his bedroom produced album to the live arena. He made his UK debut at the Carlsberg Reading/Leeds festivals to a rapturous reception. They knew all the words! commented a very surprised Skinner. Originally not very keen to take The Streets live, Skinners natural confidence and swagger meant his stage presence looks like that of a age old pro. The live experience includes a full band and visuals that are in part mini films and in part images taken from various Playstation 2 games. |
