| Feel 'Young Again' with The Shining | ||
|
Released on Zuma Recordings on September 2nd 2002, Young Again is the third single to date from British band The Shining. The single, produced by Youth and mixed by Tom Rothrock is released on two CDs and limited edition 10" vinyl and includes tracks that will not be available on the bands forthcoming debut album, True Skies. The Shining are Simon Jones and Simon Tong, both formerly of The Verve and Duncan Baxter, Dan Macbean and Mark Heaney, all previously unknown. From the poignant, understated piano and tender yearning of the verse through to the swelling, wide-screen resolution of the chorus, Young Again is yet another indication of The Shinings growing status as The U.Ks next great rock and roll band NME. The single is taken from the bands debut album, True Skies due for release a week later on September 9th. True Skies is a debut album that sounds like a fleet of juggernauts driving headlong through a diamond mine. It takes the blueprint forged on Verves Northern Soul (an inevitable comparison) and leads it into dreamier, more reflective waters. However its THE SHININGs remarkable recent sold-out live shows that truly demonstrate a band at the peak of its powers. As they launch a sonic avalanche that builds to Everest-like proportions it can give you the shivers. Astro-rock has visited similar terrain before, but never quite at this altitude. |
