Having roasted the lucrative old
chestnut of producing a “Best Of” album, many bands spiral downwards
into an abyss of rash, ill-written songs and celebrity D
list events. However, Robert Smith and The Cure has never
been an ordinary band. This latest studio release represents
one of the most blatant displays of Smith’s dark and
unpredictable side, since the time he munched into Kenny
on an episode of South Park. This is conveyed in the harrowing
and instrumentally cutting; ‘Us or Them’ as Smith
bellows out the defiant and terse lyrics without sounding
one bit forced;
