The Cooper Temple Clause Redefine Rock Boundaries With Phenomenal Third Album

The Cooper Temple Clause are set to make the ultimate comeback with 'Make This Your
Own', their third studio album, released on the 22 January 2007 through Sequel. Having hit the top 40 with 'Homo Sapiens', the first single from the album, TCTC are once again reaffirming their position as electro rock pioneers and the 'band's band'. Following a period out of the spotlight, 'Make This Your Own' is a triumph of substance over style in the otherwise tepid world.

'Make This Your Own' erupts into life with the disco-tinged romp of 'Damage', all obtuse guitars, corkscrew vocals and handclaps. Debut single 'Homo Sapiens', with a riff that kills from a thousand yards, sees main vocalist Ben Gautrey snarling "I am a man, I'm a superstar, I shine so bright, a worldwide success" with such fire it would make Satan himself drop to his knees and weep like a baby. That's the unique thing about TCTC; three completely different vocalists in the form of Ben (also guitars and bass), Dan Fisher (also guitar and bass) and Tom Bellamy (also guitars, keys and bass) mean that no one ever has and no one ever will sound like them. "Not many bands have three guys who can sing and have very different voices and we'd be stupid not to use it," says Fisher. "Ben's voice is a good old rock voice, Tom's got the dulcet Barry White tones and I sing like a girl, and it works, hopefully." And work it does.

Having signed at a mere 19 years of age, the boys paved the way for a myriad of contemporary bands, Kasabian and The Automatic to name but two. The band are all now in their mid-twenties and it shows in the maturity of the songs they are writing. Second single off the album 'Waiting Game' is a triumphant collision of anthemic, heartfelt lyrics and soaring guitar melodies.

Released on the 8 January 2007, the single will be available exclusively to download on
Christmas Day (more details TBC). 'Make This Your Own' is experimental. Yes it's different, but it retains all the elements that defined TCTC three years ago. The injections of electronic wizardry on tracks like 'Once More With Feeling' and the glorious 'Head' remind everyone that TCTC were doing this way before anyone else. Arguably, TCTC invented the notion of electronics in indie rock music. Elsewhere, the band explore their more sentimental side with tracks like 'What Have You Gone And Done?' and take a foray into the complete unknown with the wonderfully quaint melodies of 'Take Comfort'. 'All I See Is You' starts out as a melancholic slab of swirling electronics before exploding into machinist riffs and soul-destroying pleas. 'Isn't It Strange' nods to the likes of Human League, while album closer 'House of Cards' is a sentimental piano driven ditty that is reminiscent of Blur towards the end of their career.

So, 'Make This Your Own' then. There's a message in there somewhere. Yes, 'Make This Your Own' is something different. A move away from the style over substance of the yesteryear towards a brighter future of classic songwriting. TCTC challenge you.'Make This Your Own'.
