Switchfoot are a band that cares,
as their invitation to attend a summit in Nashville for
DATA (Debt, Aids, Trade
for Africa) testifies. Vocalist Jon Foreman oozes sincerity
no matter what style he is adopting. The impressive slower
and meaningful soulful pop song; ‘Gone’ is a
colourful instrumental featuring neat lyrics about the fickle
nature of, well, everything:
“Gone, like Frank Sinatra,
like Elvis and his mom,
Like Al Pacino’s cash, nothing lasts in this life.
Gone, my High School dreams are gone.”
The even slower piano fuelled, Coldplay
like ‘On Fire’ is
sure to go down well in Britain. Foreman is well aware of
the fact that he and his band mates have “the best
jobs in the world”, as he seems intent on making the
most of his privileged position by producing honest music
and connecting with people. How refreshing!
