Subtle release their anthemic new single 'The Mercury Craze' on Lex/EMI Records on November 20th on special red vinyl 12" and enhanced CD. The amazing video for 'The Mercury Craze' was put together by ubercool Norwegian/Japanese animation collective SSSR (their DVD for Subtle's Wishingbone album won best music video at the British Animation Awards 2006). The video splices live action, miniature landscapes, cartoons and vintage film footage.
Since their genesis in 2001, Oakland-based sextet has been home-recording their way to the far side of song. Drawing from a diverse palette of instruments: sampler, synth, guitar, cello, winds, electronic and acoustic drums, and the unmistakable voice and prose of frontman Doseone, the band fashions a self-sampled and live-mic'd musical experience.
'The Mercury Craze' is the first single taken from their new album 'For Hero: For Fool' released this month to a rave fanfare of reviews and is a consciously shiny, upbeat Devo-meets-Outkast rock-out. B-sides on the single include a new remix courtesy of Soft Pink Truth (Drew Daniel from Matmos). Both formats also include an exclusive collaborative track with Wolf Parade, blending Subtle's epic hip-hop elements with the raw, orchestral rock of their Canadian counterparts on 'Middleclass Haunt', which completes a trilogy of tracks that appear on the album.
The band returns with their rawkus full live show in November for a series of spectacular shows. See dates below:
