New DefJam signing Smujji is set to unleash a fresh sound on the UK airwaves. It’s an interesting collaboration of sounds. There’s the Jamaican influence to give ‘KO’ that dancehall vibe but there’s also Spanish guitar and a good dollop of pop to make it easy to listen to. Smujji is a smooth guy and he’s talking about a beautiful girl and she means to him. It’s a love song filled with ‘socca’ sound to make it full of summer love. You could imagine all the ‘lover lover’ men getting

down to this track with all the girls grinding. ‘KO’ is not hard hitting due to the pop influence but it has lots of crossover potential. Smujji’s voice doesn’t make a massive impression but it works well with the music. Overall I’d say Smujji has made a progressive pop tune that could educate chart listeners to different sounds, however it might not make much impact on the underground circuit.
