Shed Seven: Where Have You Been Tonight? Live
Shed Seven: Where Have You Been Tonight? Live

The CD kicks off with a dulcet toned audience member screeching his way through parts of " Getting Better", aided by the amiable front man of Shed Seven Rick Witter. Right from the start you get the impression of what it is like to be at a Shed Seven gig/come party. Ironically, the proud northerners chose to record the live CD at one of their London gigs. They have always been popular in the Capital and have virtually sold out the seven gigs they recently performed at the London Barfly finishing on the 10/05/03.

Four older sing a long tunes including "Devil In Your Shoes" start things off, and was very well received by the audience. This will make many people close their eyes and think " aaahhhhh memories " whilst listening. This CD is a great reminder, if one were needed, of just how good the band is live. It is a testament to their fun nature, how they manage to whip up enthusiasm, whilst singing some songs that they must have sung more times than Liam Gallagher has admired himself in the mirror.

The important track on the album is the new song "Why Can't I Be You ", ( Due out soon) that goes down well and represents a change in direction from the older bouncier tunes like Disco Down, which is usually the final song at their gigs. It is useful have the older and new tracks on the same CD, so that you can see how different the band's new material is. "Why Can't I be You ? " contains deep, sad and doleful lyrics about lost love and the way it leaves you feeling:

"A big hole swallow my bones, take in all of my nine stone.
Cos I don't need a thing, not anything, nobody round here will
Miss me"

The problem for the band is whether the "Shed Massive" who long to hear " Going For Gold" like salivating dogs, will allow them move on into another, more deeper direction.

This live album is a good album to buy for those wanting a good introduction to Shed Seven's material, as it spans a wider range than the previous compilation " Going For Gold", as it include the songs from the last album " Truth Be Told":
" Cry For Help ", " Eyes Before " and " Step Inside Your Love " and a glimpse into the future with the above mentioned new track. For hardcore Shed Seven fans ( yes, they do exist!), it is a must buy, as every night after a hard day you can lock your room, close your eyes and drift away into a live Shed Seven gig.
