Semifinalists' self-titled debut album has propelled them into the realms of a band on the lips of musicians, fans, critics and record buyers alike. Their sound has drawn favourable comparisons to the likes of Wayne Coyne, Fleetwood Mac and Arcade Fire yet still cannot accurately be aligned with anything else out there today. Each track saunters casually and beautifully between styles, with dreamy mind-wandering harmonies, neck-snapping riffs and glorious story telling in equal measure.

'DC' is the band's third single and places Adriana Alba's delicate California-tinged vocals to the fore alongside an insistent bassline and a beautiful dancing guitar riff. As is their way, the band then take the song down into a slowly building breakdown and it ends in a mini-crescendo that bears little resemblance to the opening, making a song that holds together so well even more impressive.

The B-Side "Moonlight Bounced" is a charmingly simplistic electronic affair, like a gameboy being played by the Gods.

The UK summer shows begin with two dates supporting Architecture In Helsinki and then Tilly And The Wall, followed by a headline tour closing with a date at Bardens Boudoir on June 8th with Hot Club De Paris and Jeremy Warmsley. Semifinalists are undoubtedly ready to build on their early goal of becoming everyone's second favourite band and mark them out as one of the breakthrough acts of 2006.
