4. Curtis Lynch Jnr featuring JP “The Chase” (One Little Indian) (12" - (One Little Indian) )
“Chase” is an apt title for a single that hurriedly races through from start to finish with a rapper who manages to speak at record breaking speed over background harmonies which oddly enough bring back memories of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” and Curtis Mayfields “Super fly”. There’s plenty of obligatory scratching but on the whole it’s a mediocre affair. The New Skool Uproar Mix provided by Glen N of the Future Funk Squad pips the original to the winning post. The beats are slowed down, the vocals thinned out. Some very tasty techno wizardry and Freq Nasty style basslines move the situation firmly towards the middle of the dancefloor.
