A
large crowd gathered in Shoreditch at the weekend to watch
the singer Spikey T taking two housebricks for a walk to
publicise his appearance at local venue Cargo.
Spikey walked his bricks by laying one down, walking forward,
laying the other, then picking up the first one and moving
it ahead of the second. It took him 25 minutes to reach Cargo
from nearby Hoxton Square.
On the way, people left local pubs, restaurants and art
galleries to join the growing crowd attracted by this spectacle.
One member of the
crowd was video director Julian Davies, who was pretending
to be an American
tourist with a DV camera,
but was actually filming the promotional video for Spikey
T’s next single, Gunshot Dub.
Following their
sell-out London shows, Australia’s Resin Dogs release
Gunshot Dub featuring Spikey T on the 20th September.

Spikey T
Spikey T is a singer and DJ who was raised in London by
Jamaican parents. A relation of reggae legend Bunny Wailer,
Spikey has recorded with Morcheeba, Mr Scruff, Jah Wobble,
Bomb the Bass and Mark Rae to name just a few.
Northern Sky
The Guardian newspaper explained
that Dylan Rippon’s
protest song Rocks and Sands showed his “enthusiasm
for peace in a world which appears to have gone entirely
insane.” Northern Sky released 500 copies of Rocks
and Sands on 7” vinyl in March 2003.
This was our first single, and it
entered the Rough Trade shop’s weekly list of ‘the
top ten platters that matter.’
Our second single, released in October,
was Boatrace by Simian Mobile Disco, which we licenced
to Orange for their
campaign to promote the Nokia 3300 mobile phone. Boatrace
was a dance floor filler in Shoreditch at the time. Northern
Sky released 1,000 copies of Boatrace on 12” white
label vinyl.
