Four Central Park Zoo animals, who have spent their lives in blissful captivity, are unexpectedly sent back to Africa. Shipwrecked on the exotic island of Madagascar, these native New Yorkers must come to terms with what is truly means to be "wild".

Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller) was born into a life of privilege. He is a star in the greatest city on the earth… the king.

Marty the zebra (Chris Rock) is a dreamer and an adventurer. He constantly dreams about the wild and wonders what life would be like beyond the zoo, and thanks to him his friends find out.

Melman the hypochondriac giraffe (David Schwimmer) was transferred to the Central park zoo as a young adult. His time in the Bronx Zoo makes Melman believe he’s a real worldly guy – that he’s really been around. Compared to his three friends, he has.

Born and raised in the Central Park Zoo, Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) is one hip hippo – a strikingly beautiful, smart and independent woman who knows what she wants and knows hot to get it.


Madgascar will be released by UIP in Spring 2005.
