Having won a cult
fan-base on the back of constant touring and indie albums
such as Borders and Boundaries and Hello
Rockview, Gainesville Rock City heroes Less Than Jake
are poised to burst into the mainstream with the release of
their Warner Bros. debut album Anthem on May 19th.
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Days
Dookie), Anthem is the finest demonstration
of Less Than Jakes talents to date. Streamlined to a
lean collection of punk, ska, rock, pop and reggae, Anthem
blends the sheer energy of their hi-octane live shows with
their strongest songs so far.
The first single to be taken from Anthem
is the relentlessly addictive Shes Gonna Break
Soon (out May 12th), but the highlights of Anthem
are too numerous to mention; try Look What Happened
(The Last Time), a ska-infused punk song with enough
of a pop edge to hit the charts in a major way, the sublime
and restrained reggae of The Science Of Selling Yourself
Short or the scintillating blast of Escape From
The Bomb House. Anthem also includes LTJs
interpretation of the Cheap Trick classic Surrender.
Less Than Jake released their debut album
Pez-core in 1995 and soon marked themselves as
one of the worlds finest ska-punk bands with tracks
such as All Of My Best Friends Are Metalheads
becoming rock club staples. However, its through heavy
touring that Less Than Jake have really made their name, with
their main-stage appearances at last years Reading and
Leeds festivals being amongst their biggest. Their gigs are
typically a frenzied party occasion, with covers ranging from
vintage Slayer tracks to songs from Grease occasionally
included alongside their own crowd pleasers.
Anthem be supported by
a major UK tour from May 9th May 31st, whilst Less
Than Jake will also play the main-stage at the Download festival
at Donington Park on June 1st.
