Somewhere Only We Know

It’s quite hard to know what to make of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ – it irritates me intensely but at the time I also like it a lot. I think it’s the piano that does it, the start sounds like it belongs on an Elton John song but then the vocals kick in and that impression vanishes. How on earth singer Tom Chaplin maintains that falsetto all the way through is beyond me. It seems bands that have piano somewhere in their records are becoming more widespread but, for Keane the piano is the main instrument. For basically just a piano, vocals and drums they make a mighty sound. Not bad for an indie record, it’s definitely a grower this one. Recommended.
