Haunting thriller Jindabyne explores the wide-reaching repercussions when a group of men, upon finding a girl's dead body in the river whilst on their annual fishing trip, decide to continue with their trip and only report the discovery once they return home. The morality of their actions causes ripples through their small Australian community, but it is amongst those closest to them that the incident has the most provocative and devastating effect.

Gabriel Byrne (Miller's Crossing, Wah-Wah, Vanity Fair) and Laura Linney (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Kinsey, Love, Actually) - in the third onscreen marriage of their acting career - play Stewart and Claire, whose marriage is brought to breaking point as Claire struggles to make sense of her husband's actions. As the consequences unfold, issues of responsibility, morality, guilt and the ways in which men and women grieve are explored, and a haunting feeling that things have shifted settles amongst those affected.

The small New South Wales town of Jindabyne with its mountainous backdrop and icy rivers, under which the old town lays buried, becomes an all-pervading character in the film, seemingly exerting its own magical influence on the characters as the story unfolds.
Despite having directed only three feature films in his career Ray Lawrence is one of Australia's most acclaimed directors, and one of the most sought after for actors around the world. Jindabyne follows the internationally critically acclaimed Lantana (2001), and Lawrence's first feature Bliss (1985), both of which were winners of the AFI Best Film Award. Laura Linney commented: "In America, all good actors want to work with Clint Eastwood. In Australia it's Ray. I'd do anything for Ray."

Jindabyne enjoyed incredible box office and critical success upon its theatrical release in May, and has won a string of awards and nominations including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress (Deborra-Lee Furness) and Best Cinematography at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards; the Herald Angel Award at Edinburgh Film Festival; nine AFI award nominations and three Australian Screen Sound Guild Awards.
