Interpol
Support from Franz Ferdinand
And The Stills
Manchester Academy 1.
27 August 2003.
The honour of promotion to the main
Academy from a smaller venue bestowed upon New York garage
rockers Interpol, provided a neat opportunity for The Smiths
and Oasis influenced Montreal based quartet, The Stills
to promote their debut EP ’Rememberese’ to
a larger audience. Front man and Tim Fletcher was quiet
but jovial throughout, with the tender ‘Still In
Love Song’ getting the best reception impressing
the audience.
There is a lot of big talk doing the rounds about kinetic
rockers Franz Ferdinand being the future of music. Their
infectious enthusiasm and range of influences from Intepol
themselves to The Cure, Teenage Fan Club and The Hellacaopters.
This was an assured performance by a band that is gaining
fans with the momentum of a runaway freight train. Highlight
track was ‘Take Me Out’ a poignant number featuring
no nonsense lyrics:
