Howie Beck - Sometime Video

Toronto's critically acclaimed Howie Beck releases the long awaited first single from his forthcoming self titled album on January 30th, 2006. Sometimes (she's so far in) will be available on CD and 12", and includes two exclusive remixes of tracks from the album by GONZALES and STRATUS.

Sometimes (she's so far in) is a tale of someone who "…can never walk a straight line except sometimes in the morning". Like all of Howie Beck's finest music, however, the sweet melody, uplifting chorus and rocking climax disguise the sting in the song's tail.

The B-sides to the single may take people somewhat by surprise. GONZALES, who has had a long association with howie having grown up with him and many more of the key figures of the Toronto music scene, offered to remix My Low. The results are a strikingly funky and bizarrely uplifting interpretation of howie's original. STRATUS, meanwhile, who have previously remixed Calexico and Lambchop amongst others, were so taken with howie's last album Hollow that they invited him to add vocals to Uplink, the stand out track on their debut album for Klein Records. Their mix of Lay Down is a lush downtempo classic in the making.

Sometimes (she's so far in) and the original versions of My Low and Lay Down will be available on howie beck, his first new recordings in five years, which will be released on February 13th, 2006. The Canadian artist's last album, Hollow, was released in Europe in 2001 by the now defunct Easy!Tiger label to rapturous acclaim, most notably in the UK and Canada. Featuring guest appearances from Ed Harcourt, Feist and Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, the new album – which refines Howie's tradition of self produced, stunningly intimate, melodious classics –was played and recorded almost entirely by Howie himself.

Howie Beck joined Nada Surf for part of their European tour in November and December, and has also recently finished producing the new solo album by Jason Collett of Broken Social Scene, which will be released in the New Year.
