Before the likes of KT Tunstall and Katie Melua made female singer-songwriters cool again, Gemma Hayes was already garnering plaudits for her work, including a Mercury prize nomination for "Night On My Side". The follow up album "The Roads Don't Love You" was released last year, and featured the mixing skills of Nigel Godrich.

With some wonderful vocal harmonies and a beautiful melody, "Undercover" is an alluring bittersweet acoustic track that exudes charm. Hayes has a wonderful voice, and writes in an open and endearing style, which only adds to the brilliance of the song. She may not get the coverage afforded to some of her contemporaries, but she is every bit as good and possibly much better.
