Smokers at the Hospital Doors
Single Review

Please welcome back everyone's favourite slightly dour Midlanders, Editors. Now at that difficult second album stage, Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors is the first single offering from the new long player, and it has to be said that the return is a warm and welcome one.

Editors have a beautiful ability to hit the nail on the head when it comes to anthemic, rousing choruses, and Smokers is no exception to the winning formula. All the elements are there. Tom Smith's mournful crooning, the pounding drums and the wail of guitars.

The sound has developed somewhat since debut The Back Room. There is still the intensity and the passion, but this has been bolstered by a certain knowing maturity. Warmth, honesty and joy - it's all here. Beautiful stuff.
