The
Deftones release their new album, entitled simply ‘Deftones’, on May
19th via Maverick. ‘Deftones’ is the follow-up
to 2000s Grammy Award winner and Kerrang! album of the year ‘White
Pony.’
Produced by Terry
Date (Limp Bizkit, Soundgarden), work on ‘Deftones’ came
naturally to the band, having gravitated back to their
own studio
The Spot soon after completing
a world tour.
“We couldn’t sit still,” asserts guitarist
Stephen Carpenter, on the genesis of ‘Deftones.’ “We
had built up a lot of creative steam on the road and were
hitting on all cylinders. You can’t just turn that
off. We tried relaxing and living like regular civilians
but it wasn’t happening. We’d forgotten how.”
The result is perhaps
the most fully realised Deftones album to date. As well
as the dense atmospherics
of the first single ‘Minerva’ (out
May 12th), other highlights include the vicious sonic assault
of ‘Hexagram’, the ambient ‘Lucky You’ and
the crushing power of ‘Bloody Cape.’
Deftones first introduced
themselves to the world with their 1995 debut album ‘Adrenalin’, but it was the
release of 1997’s ‘Around The Fur’ that
confirmed their status as one of rock’s most exciting
acts. With 2000’s massive selling album ‘White
Pony’, Deftones achieved mainstream recognition, assisted
by the hit single ‘Change (In The House Of Flies).’
Deftones are set to play the main-stage at the Download
Festival on May 31st.
