Badly Drawn Boy,
aka Damon Gough, has recorded a version of the classic Dexy's
Midnight Runners 80's anthem 'Come On Eileen'.
The track was recorded with Jools Holland
and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra specifically for the 1Love
Warchild charity album released on Monday 14 Oct.
'Come On Eileen' was originally released
in 1982 and like all the songs chosen for the Warchild album,
it went straight to number one.
For an average artist it would have been
impossible to add anything to such a timeless track, but Badly
Drawn Boy has produced an original, beautiful and very very
funny cover which is wihtout a doubt highlight of this charity
album.
Other artists that feature on the album
include The Prodigy, Oasis, Feeder and even The Sugababes
covering Adamski's 'Killer'.
The 1Love album is a worthy successor to
the 1995 War Child HELP album which raised over
1.25 million pounds for the charity.
For the last ten years War Child have been
actively providing aid to children whose lives have been devastated
by war. In Bosnia, Africa, Afghanistan and the Middle East,
War Child has helped some 5 million people rebuild their lives.
Badly Drawn Boy's next single is also released
on the same day. 'You Were Right' is the first track to be
taken from the forthcoming album 'Have You Fed The Fish?'
but will be deleted after one day of release.
'You Were Right' was released on the 14th
October.
'1Love' was released on the 14th October.
