Coldplay
‘Speed Of Sound’
The new single released May 23rd 2005
‘Speed Of Sound’ is the first single to be taken from the Coldplay album ‘X&Y’, released 6th June.
No.1 on the iTunes chart worldwide for several weeks and already Coldplay’s biggest US hit to date on download sales alone (it entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No.8, the highest new entry by a British
artist since The Beatles ‘Hey Jude’ in 1968), ‘Speed Of Sound’ rides along on a classic Chris Martin piano riff and the inventive, muscular drumming of the brilliant Will Champion. It’s a stunning return which, like all
Coldplay singles, gets better with every listen. They may have been away for almost two years but there’s still no-one to touch Coldplay when it comes to making tuneful, intelligent, moving rock music.
On the CD single ‘Speed Of Sound’ is backed by two new songs, the up-tempo, ultra-catchy ‘Things I Don’t Understand’, and the gorgeous ballad ‘Proof’. Far from being
B-sides, both songs are from the ‘X&Y’ sessions (with ‘Things Of Understand’ set to appear on album right up until the last stages of recording) making the single an absolute must-buy for any Coldplay fan. There will also
be limited 10 inch and 7 inch singles.
Coldplay will precede their biggest UK tour dates so far with the prestigious Saturday night headline slot at the Glastonbury Festival.
