They have one thing in common, a love of
good music combined with the art of making it sound great,
and the band has gone from strength to strength since its
inception in June of 2002. As well as playing a string of
live dates all over the country, rapidly developing a huge
fan base, The Cognition have spent many hours recording at
Eastcote Studios with Ash and Cornershop Producer, Phil Bagenal.
The joint effort between Phil and the lads spawned the music
which makes up their debut album 'Dead Electric'.
You may be able to pick out obvious influences
on the album (early Primal Scream, Nirvana, Oasis and Faith
No More, amongst others) but their sound is wholly original
and very much in its own style, with depth, variety, originality
and infectiousness. The relentless guitars & driving bass
maintain a rock edge yet at the same time manage to embrace
a sense of intimacy. Meanwhile Jim provide's the ultimate
vocal dynamic -- soaring on one track and then diving to a
down-and-dirty metal growl on the next.
Their debut EP - 'Gettin Messy' released
through Full On Entertainment - impressed the Mean Fiddler
Group enough to ask the boys to play the Carling Stage at
last summer's Reading Festival and Universal/Wrasse Music
to distribute their debut album.
Preceding that album is the release of double
A sided single 'So Different' and 'Bamboo Section' on 10th
March 2003. The single includes the music video of 'So Different'
which was shot on location in London. The video and samples
of other songs are available on the band's website http://www.thecognition.com
and will be played in conjunction with an interview from 10th
Feb 2003 on Kerrang! TV.
The band are also embarking on a nationwide
tour in support of the single and album, with dates being
lined up during February and March. More details will be announced
shortly.
