| Chungking
have been spreading the love all over, with Let The Love In
hitting the airwaves on Radio 1 (Zane Lowe, Mary Anne Hobbs,
The Blue Room and One World) and XFM (Record of the Week on
John Kennedy).
Sitting in the bath one day, Sean could
hear Jessie rattling around in the kitchen, picking up the
guitar, knocking out a Joni Mitchell tune. Not a bad voice....
Really not a bad voice at all....... restraining the Archimedes
instinct, a light bulb appeared above Sean's head and, wrapping
a towel around him, he hustled Jessie into the cellar and
in front of the microphone
.
Jessie, James and Sean named the group Chungking.
The title initially came from the film "Chungking Express"
because it spoke of isolation and shared the paradoxical nature
of the band, being hopeful cynics. The Mama's and The Papa's
'California Dreaming' was a persistent theme, which was not
only a great song, but squared their bittersweet and escapist
nature - in a cellar, yet the music soared in the sunshine;
in love, yet the frequent reality was frustration and paranoia.
"I wonder if there's anything in the world that won't
expire?" was a wistful quote, from the same character
that used, as a password, "Undying Love".
Let The Love In is out on September
1st.
