Cartoon Network
Celebrates 10th Birthday
Cartoon Network
is 10 years old on September 17th celebrating an unbroken
record as the UK’s number
one commercial channel for 4-9 year old kids*.
Cartoon Network was launched with
the world’s largest
cartoon library at its foundation with over 10,000 cartoons
from Warner Bros., MGM and Hanna Barbera.
The company committed an average
of $100 million a year to creating new cartoons in its
own studios in addition to
its European co-productions and has created global hits including
The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory and The Cramp
Twins.
In ten years at number one Cartoon Network has also added
multi-award winning websites, a games channel on digital
satellite and cable, games on mobiles and its best selling
comic.
Its Cartoon Network Enterprises group is responsible for
Licensing and Merchandising, Video and DVD, Publishing, Music,
Theme Parks and live events. A current Enterprises project
is the hugely popular Powerpuff Girls clothing range in Top
Shop and Selfridges.
The 10th anniversary happily coincides
with a new arrival to the Turner family – boy’s
channel Toonami joins Cartoon Network and Boomerang on
the roster, consolidating
their pole position by delivering more kids (4-15) ratings
than any other family of channels on digital cable, satellite
or terrestrial television.
