It seems a lot longer, but this February
Cargo notches up 3 years of rattling the railway above with
a FREE Birthday Party!
2003 was a huge year for Cargo with the launch of new nights Champion Sound,
Demo City and 6 Foot Midgets 2 Foot Blondes, providing a new home for existing
nights such Glasgow’s infamous Mish Mash, the full overhaul of Cargo’s
sound, lighting and visual system, launching Casual Records with Ross Allen,
collaborating with The Barbican as part of the Way Beyond Nashville festival,
plus UK host for Koneisto, Montreal Electronic Groove and Atlantic Waves, not
to mention joining forces with one of the UK’s best loved festivals,
The Big Chill.
Wrapping up what has been a great year
- whilst staring 2004 down the barrel of the gun, Cargo will
be throwing an extra special FREE party doing what we do
best - quality live music then getting the dancefloor a movin’.
First gaining our attention at the launch
of Mish Mash at Cargo, “SchwaB are set to follow in
the footsteps of The White Stripes and The Datsuns as the
next big rock thing…Think a dirty Moog-filled punk
funk nuclear blues explosion with the rawest grooving basslines
and the howlingest of vocals.” – X-Ray.
Ludes bring their own brand of swashbuckling,
R n’B’, skankin gypsy blues and cheap rock n’roll
thrills to the Cargo stage having knocked the socks off us
in November when playing as part of the Way Beyond Nashville
festival. If you don’t believe us, ask the critics:
'Ludes are exactly What the World needs right now' NME
Safety goggles are optional, for when Eclectic
Method take over the stage – you may wonder if your
eyes are playing tricks on you.
“ To appreciate Eclectic Method one must forget everything one knows about
VJs, with their po-faced art house visuals habitually at odds with the audio.
Remember the rush at a perfect 'rewind' moment, now imagine that happening 5
or 6 times per track, and then multiply that by the same again with the visuals." -
Sleazenation
A special live performance comes from 2003
UK Air Guitar Championship Runner Up Danny Sterling – the
riff-god with the mullet to die for and pure female fan base
has been wowing audiences all over the country with his flamboyant
live shows and flaming smorgasbord of AC/DC soundtrack.
2004 is set to be even bigger with
Manchester’s infamous roadblock Friends And Family
night finding a new London home at Cargo from March, plus
electro mash up Comeshakethewhole fronted by Ewan Pearson
and Stan Fontan going bi-monthly from April. Add the ongoing
success of Suburb, The Shrine, XFM’s Remix, Ross
Allen’s Destination Out, Blacktonica LIVE, plus many,
many one offs – 2004 looks like Guy Fawkes night,
every night. You’ve been warned.
