BUSFACE, the brainchild of Hugh Brooker and Seb Wronski, give us their debut album ‘Devils, Sharks and Spaceships’ on the brand new Justice Brothers label. The pair has teamed up with a selection of contributors including pop princess Sophie Ellis-Bextor on opening track ‘CIRCLES’. Her voice is unmistakable on this electro static track but doesn’t sound out of place with ouzels of pop friendly bass lines, which to a certain extent let the album down.

Skipping a couple of tracks to the single released from the EP, ‘LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN’ the synthesisers are out in force with lyrics that are quite airy. The more you listen to it, the more you like it and its catchy pop hook does have potential to get you moving around the dance floor.

Much of the label sounds the same but it does come across like BUSFACE are trying to conquer a whole range of music genres without really achieving any of them. There is a mixture of acid synths, good old-fashioned disco beats together with some breaking electro beats, and robot like vocal effects. Not referring of course to Diane Charlemagne of Moby fame. Her contribution on 4 A CHANGE and U R THE FUTURE make the tracks worth a listen.

All in, ‘Handbag Electro’ is the essence of the album, have a listen but skip to CIRCLES, BOOM BOOM BABY, ODDS & EVENS and U R THE FUTURE.
