Choosing My Religion
Video
A week before the launch of debut album 'Right to Re-arrange', young Leeds insurgents Buen Chico are sending out an advance reconnaissance mission. 'Choosing My Religion' (released on October 8th 2007) is a scenic tour of everything good, clever and exciting about the hottest young trio in Leeds indie rock.
The track itself begins with a scritch and a scratch of guitar and the perhaps self-disproving observation that 'nobody ever says anything perfect'. After a rollicking journey via more ideas than many bands fit onto an entire album the most memorable time signature occurs, at 1:07, with a great line about snakes (but of course there can be no snakes without ladders).
Buen Chico have have a habit of stopping you in your tracks - Morgan Tatchell-Evans (guitar / vocals) is a frontman in the tradition of great English frontmen, a big-haired self-effacing tie-wearing hero with a wonderful voice; Kirsty Dolan (bass / backing vocals) brings glorious drama to it all and Alan Kenworthy (percussion) underwrites it all with pithy, coruscating drum licks.
