Beowulf & Grendel
Trailer
Beowulf & Grendel is a medieval adventure, part legendary fable, part horror-story. Based on the seminal 9th century Anglo-Saxon poem, 'Beowulf,' it tells the blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against a great and murderous troll, Grendel, who has laid seige to the kingdom of Hrothgar, the much respected king of the Danes.
The story - filmed in Iceland - plays out in a brutish Northern Europe where the reign of the many-gods is giving way to one - the southern invader, Christ. Beowulf is a man caught between sides in this great shift, his simple code transforming and falling apart before his eyes.
Beowulf & Grendel strips away the mask of the hero-myth, leaving a raw and tangled tale.
Based on the epic poem, Beowulf, this film is a breathtaking medieval adventure, starring Gerard Butler, Stellan Skarsgard and Sarah Polley.

Beowulf and Grendel is an impressive, thoughtful, sweeping adventure, full of
unexpected humor and a cautionary message on the destructive nature of Fear.
The stunning images of a primal Icelandic panorama will linger in your visual
memory; the fierce and all too ever-present connundrum of War and annihilation
will demand your attention long after the closing credits; and the possibility
of quintessential Hero, admirably portrayed with raw energy and complex candor
by Gerard Butler, will capture your heart. See it. Rent it. Own it.
I've traveled twice to Canada and once to Seattle to see this movie, and it
only improves with each viewing. Beautiful cinematography and score combined
with terrific acting and a clever take on this ancient story makes for a
special movie viewing experience. I've never read so many books and looked up
the history and mythology of the period as for this movie. Andrew Berzins is
indeed another story teller sharing his version of the tale, much as Thorkel
does in the movie. I feel fortunate to be among the few to see this on the big
screen, but the DVD with surround sound is just as awesome!
