Belle & Sebastian
The Blues Are Still Blue
Single Review

"The Blues Are Still Blue" is probably the sweetest love song which uses a trip to the launderette as an allegory. Or at least in the top ten anyway.

All of the typical Belle & Sebastian ingredients are here, catchy melodies, sweet harmonies and jangly guitars, but they are augmented by a glam style boogie, like they're channelling the spirit of Marc Bolan, making this an upbeat, soulful affair, which takes on The Magic Numbers on at their own game and wins hands-down.

They get extra brownie points for good, fun b-sides, one of which is the best cover version of "Whiskey In The Jar"
you will ever hear, which miraculously doesn't roam into pub-rock territory. Bobby Steele and the Valentinos from the Fox and Hound, eat your hearts out.
