Bat For Lashes played her first big show in London supporting CocoRosie at the Scala at the end of 2005. A year later almost to the day, Bat For Lashes headlined the Scala, where the likes of Bjork, Nellee Hooper, Jefferson Hack and Brett Anderson were to be seen in the sold out crowd. Other high profile fans include Devendra Banhart and Thom Yorke (who chose Bat for Lashes for his top ten itunes playlist).
Bat For Lashes is the work of singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan. She continues to go from strength to strength in 2007 with a new single, ‘Prescilla’, which has been especially re-recorded for this release. Natasha flew to Brooklyn specifically to work closely with producer Matt Boynton and a horn section to reinterprit Prescilla and produce a more raw, rhythmic and full sound. The new version sees Bat for Lashes develop her creative and recording process into new territory.
The b-side is Natasha’s sensual piano ballad version of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”. The cover is now a highlight of the live set, and this version was recorded for Rob Da Bank’s radio show and played regularly by him on Radio 1.
The video for Prescilla was directed by Andy Bruntel, who recently shot Will Oldham’s video for ‘Cursed Sleep’. The location was the Hollywood Hills Bronson cave, used in the original Batman TV series starring Adam West. This time, our very own Bat took up temporary residence there to produce a bewitching, dark and beautifully shot video including magicians, dreamscapes and lots of flying.
