Originally released last year as a craftily-cultured white
label, Misti Blu not only went on to sell over 10,000 copies
at a fiver a throw in a matter of weeks; but also reaped praise
from the likes of Radio 1 with Mary Anne Hobbs declaring Misti
Blu to be the most requested record ever on her Breezeblock
show. Repeated plays also came on Pete Tong, The Blue Room
and Lamacq Live as well as KISS, XFM and Galaxy.
While the radio waves warmed
to its simple breath of emotion, column inches of acclaim
accrued with support from such estimable publications as Sleaze
Nation, 7, Jockey Slut, Mixmag, Muzik, DJ and I-DJ. All joined
hands in appreciation of an unknown Nottingham act and their
already sly, shy little classic.
Amillionsons was born late
last year when a producer's life was saved by a DJ who ran
an Acid Jazz nite. Today, the third member is old enough to
get served in pubs and possesses his own guitar, so they are
three: Robin Junga, Matt Shelton and Sam Toolan.
Based on, and sampling Dorothy
Moores erection section classic, the original white
label version of Misti Blu came hot on the heels of amillionsons
first vinyl outing, the Steve Lamaqc-championed, Ali-meets-Simpsons,
iconic ironic lunatic ali shuffle of Stay Off The Dope.
If Dope dealt with
entertainment and the hip hop rumble in the concrete jungle
then Misti Blu was the emotional, comfort blanket lying a
few feet away in the chill-out bunker. Built around phat 6/8
beats and flamenco bass, it married a cut-up and blow-dried
sample of Moores soaring, melancholic vocal with the
irreverent but groovy insight of amillionsons and their mates-about-town
schmoov, neon heights and souldoubt.
