Akira The Don
"Clones "
Something in Construction Records
Get ready for the next jaw-dropping instalment of the Akira the Don musical odyssey. His new single 'Clones' is the first to be lifted from his forthcoming Interscope album and is sure to bolster his fast-growing reputation as a rapper of mighty talent! His unique style fuses hip-hop with rock and electro, whilst recent recording sessions in NY, LA and London have infused his songwriting with cross-cultural references from both sides of the Atlantic: no-one is safe from the fury that is unleashed by Akira's tongue.
The CD single features:
1. Clones
2. Liverpool (Radioactiveman's Kings of Europe Mix)
3. Clones (Whitey's Scott Free Mix)
The 7" Single features:
A. Clones (Danny Saber Mix)
B. Genocide Is Coming To The USA
The CD kicks off with an Akira the Don pop classic called 'Clones' produced with James Brown who is the studio engineer for Nine Inch Nails. The song is constructed around an Alice Cooper sample and sees an industrial James Brown backdrop loaded with live instrumentations over which Akira drops verbal bombshells with his trademark acerbic wit. As usual Akira's deftly informed, dextrous rapping attacks evil politicians and sick celebrities in unstoppable style. He is joined on the record by the prodigiously talented North-West London MC, Bashy.
'Liverpool' recalls one of Akira's adventures running away from home as a youngling. It has been remixed by Keith Tenniswood who is Andy Weatherall's production partner, under his Radioactiveman moniker. The original track gets stripped back and Tenniswood gives it an even darker feel with minimal breaks and electro-techno synths.
'Clones' is then given two remixes. The A-side of the 7" is from Danny Saber (Bowie/Black Grape), who is the second main co-producer of Akira's forthcoming album. His West Coast influence provides a lush and textured alternative mix. In contrast, Whitey, under his new remix moniker of 'Scott Free', spikes up the rhythms to give it a very London electro club feel.
An insight into the world of Akira The Don can be found at www.AkiraTheDon.com, the online home of the cult ATD Mixtape series and the self-produced animated videos that make South Park seem like the Smurfs. His mixtapes have a regular audience of around 25,000 whilst previous animations have been viewed by hundreds of thousands via websites such as NewGrounds..
