‘Cuts And Lies’ is the second single lifted from the splendid third Acoustic Ladyland album Skinny Grin, released in December 2006 to an outstanding reception. Featuring the urgent, sexy vocals of Anne Booty, and a characteristically feverish saxophone lick from Pete Wareham and locked to a heavy rhythm, with Seb Rochford putting in a killer performance on the drums, this is one of the highlights their acclaimed third album.
‘Cuts and Lies’ comes with two remixes on the B side, from the up and coming electro mixer Kissy Sell Out and Uncle Buck. John Kennedy at Xfm proclaimed Kissy Sell Out to be the UK’s answer to Justice and Uncle Buck went on Zane Lowe’s student tour last autumn, played Ibiza Rocks in the summer and are tipped to be massive this year with their blend of indie and electro beats.
The music video for ‘Cuts and Lies’ was directed by long term design collaborator Ben Rollason who is set to storm the current music video scene. Last year he directed videos for newcomers Little Man Tate, Battle and Jeremy Warmsley, which led to the latter’s ‘Dirty Blue Jeans’ stunning piece of film trickery being named in several top 10 music films of the year including Music Video magazine.
Of jazz, but not in the least inhibited by jazz tradition, and with a fierce post-punk attitude, Acoustic Ladyland simply create beautiful, soul-searching music.
